Haus der Demokratie
view project description
Germany’s first democratically elected parliament (1848–49) assembled in St. Paul’s Church in Frankfurt, a site that today stands as a symbol of democratic tradition. In 2019, the city decided to establish a House of Democracy at St. Paul’s Church – a space for exhibitions, public workshops, and discussions linking historical and contemporary civic engagement. I was commissioned to document the church’s interior and the square surrounding the building to support the public presentation of the project’s first phase. Following citizen participation, a second competition will invite architects and landscape planners to develop detailed proposals for the House of Democracy and its surrounding space.
Project: Haus der Demokratie
For: City of Frankfurt/Staabsstelle Entwicklung Paulskirche
